Maybe you haven't been following the recent price trends of Slivers, but man have they blown up. There are only 5 Legendary Slivers in existence (Commanders must be a legendary creature): The First Sliver, Sliver Hivelord, Sliver Legion, Sliver Overlord, and Sliver Queen. So what is driving the increases? One reason... The release of Time Spiral Remastered. The longer explanation is more complex.
Time Spiral Remastered has reimagined one of the most loved sets in all of Magic's history, the original Time Spiral. The main theme of Time Spiral (and Remastered) is the past. Mechanics from different sets were brought back including: Flashback, Flanking, Buyback, Morph, Shadow, Echo, Madness, and Storm. The set also included favorite creature types: Slivers, Rebels, Shapeshifters, and Thallids among others.
One fantastic set and renewed interest alone can't explain the dramatic increases, which brings us to the next factor. Modern Horizons (MH1) and Mystery Booster (MB1) have gone out of print. Prices for MH1 & MB1 boxes on the secondary market have risen to over $300. The sets contained The First Sliver and Sliver Hivelord. Secret lair reprints of Sliver Overlord have long dried up with the first and only wave released as part of the exclusive Secret Lair Drop. Sliver Legion was reprinted in Time Spiral Remastered (TSR) but that quickly sold out, with no reprints promised. Sliver Queen has always been expensive and at nearly $600 puts it out of reach for most mortals.
Basic supply and demand dictates that when there is increased demand and reduced supply prices will climb. Will the prices ever come down? No one knows for sure, but one thing is certain, these cards remain scarce.
